Personal Support Worker
Empathy and Caring
The Personal Support Worker program prepares graduates as caring support providers to help people with the activities of daily living maintain their dignity, whether they are living at home or in long-term care facilities. Personal Support Workers function as integral members of the health care team. Graduates will be able to effectively communicate with their clients, clients' families, and members of the health care team.
About the Program
This is a two-semester program, which prepares graduates for their roles and responsibilities as part of a health care team. The curriculum stresses the importance of the PSW to support the treatments for health promotion, maintenance and rehabilitation, as well as empathy for their clients' situation and ensuing behaviours.
Careers
Graduates of the Personal Support Worker program find employment in retirement homes, nursing homes, homes for the aged, various community agencies, as well as in independent practice.
